My EDM 310 Blog Post are now complete !!!!

To all my classmate.. GOODBYE!!!
It was fun being in the class with you guys.

Have a great summer

Mandatory Post!!!!

Twitter: I felt that this was a waste of time at first, but when Dr. Strange explained how to do it and how it was useful I really got into the tweeting thing. I felt that this experience has taught me how to be more rateable to my students .

Spreed sheet: This was a little difficult to me. I really didn't grasp the concept of spreed sheets and why teachers can use it. I feel that the formulas were very difficult for the loan charts. But that did teach me that car dealers cheat you out a lot of money.

Documents: This was a ball, having a document on line and not having to worry about getting a word document and paying for, Dr. Strange taught me how to use the resources of the internet and not have to pay for something you don't need.

Blogs: Blogs are a great gateway of talking to other people who can relate to what you are going through and what you are trying to accomplish in life. Blogging was getting kinda old until he introduced us to our professional blog where we had to list our goals and what we want to achieve as teachers, it gave me a new outlook on life.

TWITTER !!!!

When Dr. Strange approached the class with twitter i thought i would never understand or like this website. I felt that twitter was just another website that would just add to my stress. After playing on it and giving it a chance i really like twitter.

I went to the help desk and asked how to follow other people and Dr. Strange explained how to post your tweets and how to ask questions in private. I fell a little better about twitter and i use it more now than when it was first brought to my attention.'

I have also added twitter post to my phone so when one of the people I am following or people who are following me make a tweet I can see it on my phone. I use the phone application more than I use the computer version.

I think i have grown to love twitter, it's just another tool that teachers or future teachers can use to see what other teachers are doing or saying about their classroom.

EDM Podcast

In the podcast " Technology in the classroom at South Alabama", I was a part of that discussion. I felt the conversation was very real and it made the listeners feel like they could relate. Although there was a lot of conversation , Rachel was talking more; it was kinda one sided after i listened and she was pulling teeth for the rest of us say thing. I feel like the rest of the group members including myself could have said more and not left Rachel hanging.

In the podcast " Websites for Elementary Teachers" the group was talking equally. I also felt that they were really prepared for their topic but it was a little scripted. Don't get me wrong the podcast was great but everyone even my group had room for improvement.

In the podcast " Jobs, Teachers and Education:A Discussion with Dean Richard Hayes" their were some great questions asked buy the students in this podcast. A lot of Education majors are worried about job placement when they graduate with the current situation in Alabama. I felt after I listened to the podcast some ease came over me, to know that we will have jobs when it is time for me to graduate.

In the podcast " Useful websites for High school teachers" the podcast gave me as a secondary ed. major some useful information for my classroom. The students were very thorough with their information and made sure they explained what each website was and what you can find on the websites.

Listening to all the different podcast made me realize that all the students were interested in what they were talking about.

Blog Analysis

I analyzed a T9 blog. Her blogs were outstanding. She had a picture for every post she made. Looking at her blogs made me realize that my blogs were incomplete. I feel that she really made her points very clear and she was very thorough and she really understood what Dr. Strange was asking for.

I didn't understand a blog about Wikipedia and when I read her response it made me realize that i was over analyzing the whole thing. She also stayed on task and that is very hard to do. Thanks... to you i wont say your name, you made me realize that i need to strive a little harder to be successful in my career.

Her blog page had nothing but pluses, i don't think i saw anything wrong with her page. She had more than was required on her posts. This lead me to believe that she is a very dedicated student and she gets things done on time and with accuracy.

Blogging has opened a new world of possibilities for teachers. I feel that you can communicate with other people who are going through the same thing as you are and can relate to their words.

"Growth vs. "Fixed" Minds"

In the video " Growth vs. Fixed Minds" Ms. Carol Dweck talks about how students are in a fixed mind set. The students wonder if they are smart or is people would see them as something.

In this study students was done on a workshop where some students were given study skills and growth mind skills. And another set of students were given only study skills. The group of students who only had study skills, grades kept declining and was not improving. The other set that was taught that your mind is a muscle and it needs to be used in order to retain information, at the end of the semester the grades of this group that had the workshop for mind skills grades improved tremendously.

At the end of the workshop the teachers could pick out which students had the mind skills workshop and which students didn't. As a teacher it is important to see improvement and what helps a student to improve. This video taught me that there is more ways than one for a student grades to improve and there is always something you can do to help the students, like the mind skills workshop.

K-5 Podcast!!!

In the video podcast "City of Coral" it was very interesting. I going to be a science teacher and this information was very interesting. It talked about the ecosystem of the ocean and how coral plays a role in that. The ocean is another world of its own.

Another podcast I watched was " Infrared: More than your eyes can see", in this pod cast the narrator talked about how you can use night vision as a firefighter so you can see people at night. That kind of vision is called infrared light. Something that is hot will show up red and something that is cold will appear dark. The reason the light is passed off is because the hotter it is the more infrared is shown.

As a teacher theses video podcast can help me to explain a lesson. When done is smaller videos like the podcast you wont loose the students, and they won't think they are boring. I would love to use this type of teaching methods in my science class.

iPod in instruction

On a website i found that nursing students are using video ipods to teach lessons. The use of technology has increased in several teaching institutions. These technologies include podcasting, webbased teaching and simulation. The purpose of this project is to compare student performance between students who are taught nursing skills by faculty demonstration and those taught nursing skills delivered via video iPods. A convenience sample of 10 first semester junior students participated in the study. Students were supplied a video iPod with prerecorded nursing skills. The nursing skills were taught and recorded by faculty members in a detailed manner.Students practiced nursing skills at different times than students taught by faculty demonstration and were able to view the skills anytime on the iPod. All 10 students successfully checked-off on skill return demonstration. In addition, the video iPods were utilized in the clinical setting. Students viewed the skill demonstration on the video iPod prior to performing the skill on a patient. The use of video iPods can serve as an extension of faculty members. Future implications for research and practice include patient teaching, hospital manual for nurses, student teaching and teaching new faculty members. This project was funded by the PARTNERS Organization which supports nursing research and nursing scholarships.

Dr. Christie

Dr. Alice A. Christie, Arizona State University President’s Professor Emeritus, got her Ph.D. in Educational Technology and Language and Literacy from Arizona State University in 1995.She speaks and conducts workshops nationally and internationally on how technology can enhance teaching and learning.
Dr. Alice Christie's website has great information on it. It can help teachers in many different ways. On one part of her website she was holding workshops on how to teach geocaching podcast. She also teaches GPS pod casting. She also explains how this technology will help the teachers.Dr. Chrisite feels that technology is the best thing in the world.
She also touches on web design and how to design a web page. Also how to put photos on the web page and how to make the design to your standards. If you are a teacher you can design a web page and post your lectures and homework assignments so students can go back and check things.

iTunes II

The Edible school was about a school " Martin Luther King Jr" school uses their garden to teach different subjects. When they are doing a experiment with a pumpkin they were integrating social studies and math. They also understand how to have responsibility and they teaches the students how to prepare for the world as well. The learn about the diversity of the ecosystem and building community by helping each other. Where one child is gifted in math or science, other students may be gifted in the garden. The garden started by having a healthier lunch for the students and evolved into other things.
Being a teacher using this style of teaching could be fun. When you see a students learning because of a unconventional way is awesome. You can see that using standard methods can help but having the students help in the lesson will make them feel like they were apart of the process.

A night in the Global Village was about a group of students who had to live in different living experiences. Rocky Mountain School does this every year. The student had to live in poor conditions and had to beg for water and food. This video has taught me that there is still teachers in this world who is trying to teach their students right. I feel that this is a good learning experience for all students .

i Tunes University

iTunes University is a online learning device. This site allows students not to have to sit at a boring desk all day. The teachers can post and receive things on the iTunes University. The iTunes University can also be used anywhere and at anytime.

As a future teacher i feel that this device can make or break a situation. I know that as a future teacher some students needs that one on one time and you can not get that if you are giving out instruction over a device. You also cant answer specific questions like you could in person.
On the other hand have iTunes in my daily lecturing would help the students. If they did not understand the lesson they could always go back and look at it again, where as if i was in person i would try to answer the question to the best of my knowledge, but i could not go home with the student when he or she did not understand it when it was homework time.

Wickipedia

After learning that you can change Wikipedia i don't know if i will ever use that site again. I use to use this site for all of my research for papers or projects. Knowing what I know now I will never see Wikipedia as a reliable source anymore.

It states on NPR that anyone can go on the website and edit the information to say what they want it to say. That type of information can be strictly biased. It has also been stated that people sometimes go on the site and edit it just to mess the information up. That is not fair, people who is using this site may not know that it is incorrect information and will get some statements wrong.

This site is not all bad, some people are taking precautions to make the site better. There is a tracking device now where when a person edits the information their name will show up, and you can't make edits without giving a name.

I am glad that the right steps are being taken so people can enjoy the website and not have to worry about getting wrong information.

Randy Pauch's Last Lecture

This was an awesome lecture. In this lecture Randy talked about how you have to be good at something in order for that something to work. He also talks about how you may run into obstacles and may not know how to get it done but you will just have to find a way to get through them. He also talked about how you have to chase your dreams, don't ever stop dreaming and try to reach all your goals.

During this whole speech Randy seemed like a very humble man,and didn't seem like he was having a pity party because he was sick and dying. I felt that everything he was saying to the audience was heart felt and he meant it. He was trying to let people know that you can do anything thing you want if you work at it.

I was torn about this blog assignment at first, listening to a dying mans speech but I am glad Dr. Strange pointed this out to me. I feel like there was some things I was taking for granted and the speech made me realize that you have to always go after your dreams and that they are only as far away as you make them

Kidcast/Macbreak Weekly/SmartBoard Lesson/This Week in Photography

This podcast is about some children talking about healthy things. This particular one i was listening to was about plants and how you raise them. This podcast is so cute. It was also talking about their outside lab. This podcast was better than some of the adult podcast that i was reviewing in order to do this assignment . This is will also let children understand science and have fun with it.

In this podcast they were discussing the software of a mac pc. Alex , Justin, Scott, and Andy sit and have conversations about McIntosh products and they was talking HD tv. Justine hates the interfacing. This podcast was really interesting to me. I don't think i would sit and listen to them every week. But there are people who is very interesting. This podcast has been going on for a long time, they were talking about 25 years, I'm not sure if they are talking about the podcast or the product.

In this Podcast Ben and Joan is discussing all about teachers using white board, and also how teachers can talk to parents. Interactive white boards will be the main topic of conversation. Why do you think we use these methods of conversation. This podcast also let the subscribers talk and say what they feel about the subject they will be talking about. This podcast is really fun and interesting. I would listen to this because it is about education and how we as teachers can make it better.

In this podcast Alex Lindsey and Scott Bourne talk about photography. The conversation is about Europe outlawing or trying to outlaw picture taking. They were being silly on this episode because Alex has been gone for a long time. They are saying they have a new job at data robotics, who is a sponsor for the show. They say that people in Europe are getting upset because of the pictures being taken and they have a debate about why they should or shouldn't go through with this law. It has not been made a law yet but they want to make this law pass soon.

Fischbowl- Cont.

On this blog Karl is talking about an article out of the Denver Post. The article is discussing how they are thinking abut a educational reform. He goes on saying how he is happy with some of the statements and some he doesn't.He is upset with the fact that we can only read the executive summary of the reform and wants to know why we cant see a free download so we as the public can see everything that's in the reform.

I don't understand why the reform would have have two pages of praises from the people who has reviewed it. This has to do with the school system, and people's children has to live and deal with the rules that is made due to the reform. I really do understand where Karl is coming from in this blog and i do respect his views.

Watchers and Listeners/ Youtbe for Education

In this podcast i found that the students sounded nervous and that it normal for people to be nervous when the whole world is listening. I think that this podcast wasn't bad at all. I also think that the topic was interesting. I would have never considered that topic for my podcast. When they were taking pauses i feel that they could have found a way to just say a little something. Having dead air is not all too great.
This podcast will definitely prepare me for my own podcast. The little mistakes they made will make me prepare differently for my own. The topic that my group has picked has more to do with me so i will find it easy to put my opinion in when it is time

In this podcast the students was very informative and i feel they did a great job. I feel that Dr. Strange shouldn't have to tell the students when to talk or how to start the education. As i listened to the blog i felt that there was more talking from scripts then trying to have a conversation with each other. Instead of trying to write down what you want to say try using your knowledge of the topic and just have a conversation about what you know

Fischbowl

In this blog i feel that Karl Fisch is taking technology a little far. I feel that teachers don't have to have all the computer training that he has. Just because they don't know how to use a computer doesn't make them the target for people to make fun of them. This blog is not for the faint of heart. He is a type that feel that everyone should be literate with the tech age and if your not he feel like you should be charged to get help. I strongly disagree with him,but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

The RCEF Blog

In this blog the teacher Pie has taken a hands on approach to how she teaches her students. the two projects from 3rd grade she wanted to highlight are :students investigating plants around their school and students creating a cartoon about snails. The students in the pictures are using their five senses to solve the problems that their teacher has made for them. The students in the pictures are really having good time with their markers. third grade science blog

STAX MUSEUM

In this blog there was a group of seventh graders who wanted to study the history of music. They went to the museum of American Soul Music. In the picture located on the blog you can see that the students were very excited. The picture also shows that learning does not have to always include sitting in a classroom and listen to the teacher talk. The teacher for this class always start the history lesson by taking the students to the museum every year. The museum is located downtown Memphis. This is a very unique way to make a student feel like learning is a fun thing and not something they have to do.Memphis University School

Mr. C's Class blog

In this blog the teacher was talking about how the class celebrated the new inauguration of president Barak Obama. This is a model classroom, the students look so into this hisorty making event. Some of the pictures on this class blog represented the future looking on saying that we can really be anything we want to be now. Mr. C also spoke on the "I have a Dream" speeh that Dr. King delevered some 45 years ago and it made me feel like this speech has finally come full cirlce. This blog is wonderful for upcoming teachers like me to see. Mr. C has given me hope that my futrure students will be intrested if i only put an effort into what i am trying to teach!! Thanks for this wonder display of teaching, this just reinforced how i feel about teaching my students. Mr. C's class blog

ACCESS

ACCESS provides high-quality classroom courses, and teachers, via the technology. Some places have limited courses offered to students. Because they might cant afford it or other reasons. Their vision as ACCESS is to provide equal access to high quality instruction to improve student achievement through distance learning opportunities. They have web-based and videoconferencing as the methods of courses. The blended atmosphere will help the students to learn better.Videoconferencing is an audio/visual link between tow or more geographically remote sites. The class are are delivered by highly qualified teachers that have traditional instructional methods and expands the research of education. They have two different phases , Phase 1 is to prepare the master schedule and web site for summer and fall registration, and Phase 2 is a part of a pilot series.
ACCESS is a very good program that will help people where normally wont get it. Easy access for syllabus and lecture notes. modules. Efficient delivery of content , it also improves test scores. This program also increases the student responsibility of learning. This program also offers a unique opportunity for extended vertical dialogue between peers and instructor.
Overall this websit is very imformative!!!

Did you know?

This movie was very moving. I never knew that the United States is so far behind the rest of the world. In this movie there was some thing that really caught my eye. When the slide said that one average person will have ten to fifteen job before the age of thirty-eight. To me that is a lot of jobs for one person to have. It also stated that one out of four people has been on their current job less than a year. This holds true to today's society seeing as thought we are in slump. Another slide stated that children by the age of four will have used a computer for so many hours really shocked me. You always hear the older generation say things like, my new grand baby know how to use the computer and she is just months old. I feel that the United States is not ready for what is in store for us. We need to get our children ready for the twenty-first century, like all the other countries is doing around the world.
I think that in stead of building all the new schools we need to put the money to good use by offering better classes to prepare the students for the wold they will have to live in. Everything is so high tech that the older generations don't even know how to use things. If we as parents and citizens dont make a stand then this is not going to be a very bright future for our children.

I loved this movie

ALEX

For those of you who do not know what ALEX stands for it is Alabama Learning Exchange. There is a great amount of information on the website for ALEX. It offers lesson plans for teachers . The subjects are English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts and other technology courses. These lesson plans are done with great detail and have every thing that a teacher will need to conduct a lesson in the class room. There is also a place for teachers to have their own work space where they can personalize their lesson plans and other things dealing with the subjects they are looking for. There is also a place on this web site where you can go to different links to research different topics for individuals. This web site is very helpful for all types of teachers. Before this class i did not know ALEX even existed. I feel that as a future teacher this will be helpful for me in order to learn how to conduct my classroom to the standards of Alabama. On this web site there is a very helpful, help desk, if you have any questions about the web site or about a certain lesson that you want to teach it is there for you to get help.
